The Trust commissioned an independent review of menu planning and nutrient analysis software packages that can be used to help caterers and others to plan and evaluate their menu cycles to meet the nutrient-based standards for school lunches.
The Review was undertaken in two phases:
Phase I was conducted by an independent public health nutritionist during October/November 2006 and considered the functionality of three software packages: CRISp, Nutmeg and Saffron.
Phase II was undertaken by a group of registered dietitians during March/April 2007 and considered the functionality of four additional software packages: catering4schools, DietSure4Schools, H-Port and Relish powered by NutriplanIT.
These Reviews are intended to help caterers and those involved in school menu planning in schools and Local Authorities (LAs) to select, on an informed basis, the most appropriate system(s) for their individual needs.
The functionality and costs are correct at time of publication but are subject to change. These software programmes are continually being enhanced so prospective users are encouraged to contact the software companies directly to find out what is up and coming in new versions.
