The School Food Trust has launched a web-based tool that helps you assess whether the food and drink you provide at lunchtime and at other times of the school day meets the food-based standards.
The School Food Trust has launched an enhanced version of the web-based tool. This tool helps you assess whether the food and drink you provide both lunchtime and now at times other than lunch meets the food-based standards, for example you can check now if your food provision at breakfast, mid-morning break, tuck shops, vending and after school clubs is compliant with the food based standards.
Those already registered can use the same log-in details i.e. username and password. However, this enhanced version of the tool is now restricted only to schools or those who are supporting schools to check that their provision is compliant. You will need to use a schools URN to register which can be found on the front of the OFSTED report.
The School Food Trust checklist tool has been created following widespread discussions with professional catering staff across the country over the last year which looked at how we can help transform school food.
It provides a quick and effortless way to find out whether your food provision across the school day complies with food-based standards.
To use the School Food Checklist, simply click on the link here

Then follow these quick and easy steps:
- Register with the School Food Checklist website and log-in
- Record ALL food and drink provided in each food service over one week by ticking the boxes
- Save, submit your entries and generate a report to evaluate your food provision against the food-based standards
The report uses a traffic light system: this can be viewed online or printed for your review. A ‘green light’ indicates the provision is compliant with the food-based standards. An ‘amber light ‘indicates cases where the food-based standard has not been met due to incomplete data. A ‘red light’ indicates that the food-based standard has not been met due to the type or frequency of food provided. When a red light appears, you will helpfully be alerted to the key elements of the each food-based standard.
So, if you are looking for a quick, simple and effective way to find out how you are doing, then the School Food Checklist is for you.
