Meal Deals

Meal Deals are an innovative way of helping schools comply with the final food based and nutrient-based standards.

The School Food Trust conducted pilot studies, working together with six schools to gather further evidence to see if Meal Deals could be used as an innovative tool to comply with the final food-based and nutrient-based standards.

There were two main focuses of this study, firstly, to involve students in the development and marketing of the Meal Deal menus and secondly, to identify the reasons why High Street Meal Deals appeal to students and to use this understanding in providing a healthier version for the school. To enable us to achieve this, the Trust elisted support from two organisations. National School Partnership (NSP) supported the first three schools and Elygra Marketing Services will assisted the remaining schools. NSP and Elygra facilitated the research and marketing aspect of the study. The schools then used the research along with a nutritionist to help to develop menus that are both compliant with the nutrient-based standards and also appealing to the students.
