Well designed kitchens and dining areas are key to encouraging children and young people to enjoy quality food at school and to improving take up of school meals.

New research has shown for the first time that poor quality dining rooms are the biggest barrier to children’s uptake of school food. Well designed kitchens and dining areas are key to encouraging children and young people to enjoy quality food at school and to improving their concentration in the afternoon.
Opportunities for improvements within kitchen and dining spaces, (whether new builds or refurbishment) can lead to significant improvements in the quality of the meal and the dining experience.
