April 2007 A revised guide to the Government’s food-based standards for school lunches.
The interim food-based standards for school lunches were introduced in September 2006, and the Trust produced ‘A guide to the Government’s new food-based standards for school lunches’ to help schools and caterers to understand and implement these standards.
Since September 2008 for primary schools, and September 2009 for secondary and special schools and pupil referral units, lunches have been required to meet the final food-based and nutrient-based standards, and not the interim food-based standards.
There is a guide to the final food-based and nutrient-based standards available here which details the current standards:
www.schoolfoodtrust.org.uk/resources/nutrientbasedstandards
The guide to the interim food-based standards is still available to download as it contains useful information about the food-based standards (some of which are still included within the final food-based standards).
