The School Food Cooks' Panel is a way of sharing ideas and issues with each other and the Trust. Find out more here.

What is the School Cooks’ Panel?

From October 2006 – May 2007, the Trust held a series of Cook for Success conferences. While feedback was overwhelming positive, many of those who attended indicated that they would like to have a way of sharing their ideas and issues with each other and the Trust.

The Trust’s Cooks’ Panel will be made up of school cooks from across England who would like to be involved in helping us to develop its work on school meals. The Cooks’ Panel will provide opportunity for cooks to share ideas or issues with us and help us to generate suitable and appropriate solutions.

I am interested in the Cooks' Panel. What will I be required to do if I become a member?

The Trust will send all members a short survey once every term. Each survey will focus on a particular theme and should take no longer than 15 minutes to complete. The Trust will ask that the survey is completed and returned to us within two weeks.

What will you do with the information given?

The Trust will gather all responses, either by email or post, and produce a short report. This report will highlight the key findings from the survey.

The report will help inform our current and future work on a wide range of activities.

Completing the survey will take time. What will I get out of being a member of the panel?

School meals are changing. Being a member of the Cooks’ Panel will provide you with an opportunity to tell us how these changes are affecting what you do on a day to day basis.

The Cooks’ Panel aims to help you to feel engaged and involved. Your views and comments will help inform our current and future work on a range of activities.

This network will also put you in touch with a huge resource of ideas and support.

I am not a school cook but I work in school meals agenda. Can I join?

Our primary audience is school cooks but we are interested in the views of all those who work within the school meals agenda. The Trust would be happy to consider associate members of the panel who could add their views to those of the panel.

I know someone who would be interested in joining the Cooks' Panel. Can they join too?

We would like as many school cooks as possible to be involved. Wherever you are in England, or whatever your role is within the school meals service, you can help us continue to improve school meals and promote your vital job in making sure our children eat better and do better.

If you know of any other school cooks, or someone involved with providing school meals, who would be interested in joining the Cooks' Panel, please pass on the ‘Invite a Friend’ form

I’m an employer. What does this panel mean for me?

The Cooks' Panel will provide an additional source of information for employers about the school meals service and another mechanism for the Trust to support the work of the employers.

The Trust will produce a short report from the responses, which will highlight the key findings from the surveys. The findings from the report will be fed back to those employers we are working with the school food workforce.
