School Food Trust workshop at the UK Public Health Association Forum

The Trust is hosting a workshop entitled 'Changing School Food: Innovation, Collaboration and Implementation' at the 18th Annual Public Health Forum - Confronting the Public Health Crisis.

As part of our work to share experiences and learning about improving school food and to pursue research links with external agencies, the Trust hosted a workshop at the 18th Annual Public Health Forum – Confronting the Public Health Crisis. This workshop, entitled ‘Changing School Food: Innovation, Collaboration and Implementation’, included a brief overview of the work of the Trust followed by presentations on engaging key stakeholders. A Local Authority caterer spoke about practical issues in implementing the changes needed to meet the new standards. Two nutritionists presented abstracts on research into pupil engagement. Lastly, the Trust presented evidence for the benefits of improving school food provision and dining experiences on children’s food consumption and learning behaviours and how this evidence is being used to influence policy and to engage stakeholders. The session concluded with a panel discussion chaired by the Trust’s Director of Nutrition and Research. The Forum was held on Wednesday 24th and Thursday 25th March 2010 at the Bournemouth International Centre.

The UK Public Health Association is working towards achieving a sustainable conference that has zero impact on the environment. Data from 2008 and 2009 show that the initiatives introduced to date are having a significant impact on the footprint created by the Forum. The 2010 Forum aims to continue this trend by reducing the number of printed materials and encouraging delegates to use public transport.

The UKPHA eco initiative for the Forum can be found here

The Trust is supporting this initiative by reducing the number of printed documents distributed at the conference and all Trust delegates travelled by public transport. Notes were not handed out at the workshop, but our presentations can be downloaded in pdf format below.
