Government is currently consulting on plans to make changes to school premises regulations. These include proposals to remove existing requirements that where food is served in schools, there are adequate facilities for its hygienic preparation, serving and consumption.
Based on our research and work with schools all over the country, we’re concerned about what this will mean for school meals, decent kitchens and dining rooms where pupils want to spend their lunchtimes – we believe this could lead to the degradation of school food services.
We’d like to see current rules within the School Premises Regulations retained and expanded to include dining areas.
