We’re delighted that some of our work is among the first projects to be awarded new Health Lottery funding from the People’s Health Trust (PHT).
This week, the Trust – the independent charity responsible for deciding where the money is most needed and spent – chose our Let’s Get Cooking programme to receive ÂŁ44,069 of funding to help men in the East Midlands to learn to cook healthy meals from scratch, on a budget. We’re planning to train businesses to set up and run practical cooking activities with men in their workplaces.

Our Chairman, Rob Rees, said: “Inspiring people to learn to cook is a fun and simple way to help them live more healthily. More than half of the people already taking part in our existing cooking clubs at thousands of locations all over the country say they eat a better diet as a result, so we know this works. This grant is a wonderful opportunity to help even more people reap the benefits of being able to make a decent meal from scratch, and we can’t wait to get started on setting up our new clubs and cooking activities.”
Eamonn Holmes, National Ambassador for the Health Lottery said: “Maintaining good health in our communities is of paramount importance. The Health Lottery is a chance to address some of the health issues that are on all of our doorsteps. A huge amount of wonderful work is already undertaken every day across the East Midlands to help people live longer healthier lives and in these difficult economic times, The Health Lottery will inject a sizeable amount of new money into that local network.”
John Hume, Chief Executive of the People’s Health Trust, said: “Our funding comes from 51 local society lotteries and it’s really important for us to show people in each of the communities these lotteries represent how their money is being spent to help people live longer healthier lives.
“The local activity we fund will provide an injection of new money into the sector at a time when it really needs it. And by working with well-established partners and local groups we know that we’re investing in the people and neighbourhoods that can benefit the most from this funding.”
